The village is a hamlet of the former municipality of Mark, which later became a part of the municipality of Enghien. Abele's postal code is 7850 and is part of the Soignies Arrondissement.
A point of interest in Abele is the St. Anne's Church. In 1619 a chapel was built in honour of Saint Anne. This chapel was enlarged in 1690 to become the present choir. In 1786, Abele was assigned a chaplain: Nicolas Joseph Paternostre. In 1896, by Royal Decree of Leopold II, the chapel became an auxiliary church and Abele a separate parish from Mark. On May 23, 1904, the foundation stone of the present church was laid, which was consecrated the following year. After a lightning strike struck the bell tower, it was rebuilt in 1980. In that tower hangs a bronze bell, Gertrude, which dates from 1619, the beginning of the St. Anne's Chapel.
