Surwold is a municipality in the German federal state of Lower Saxony. The municipality is part of the Samtgemeinde Nordhümmling in the district of Emsland. Surwold has a population of 4,273.
Among the notorious 15 Nazi camps Emslandlager was Camp Börgermoor from 1933-1947, where forced laborers, as well as in camp 7 Esterwegen, had to perform hard labor in peat extraction and the reclamation of raised bogs. The famous Moor Soldier's Song originated in this camp.
