The hamlet located in the northern part of the Pegnitz-Kuppenalb is one of 23 officially named districts of the town of Betzenstein, located in Upper Franconia. It is situated about three and a half kilometers south of the town center of Betzenstein and lies at an elevation of 508 m above sea level.
Through the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century, the place became part of the independent rural municipality of Spies in 1818, which also included the parish village of Riegelstein as the seat of the municipality, as well as the villages of Eichenstruth and Illafeld. Later, the hamlet of Schermshöhe, which was established in the second half of the 19th century, was added. As part of the municipal territorial reform in Bavaria carried out in the 1970s, Eibenthal was incorporated into the town of Betzenstein on January 1, 1972, along with the entire municipality of Spies. In 1987, Eibenthal had two residents.
