This is the beginning of the famous Sierra Nevada, the enormous mountain range in the south of Spain.
The deep gorge is spanned by rickety suspension bridges, the highest of which hangs a staggering 55 meters above the gorge. We move through the impressive and rugged landscape by walking, climbing, and scrambling. We pass waterfalls and dive under natural tunnels. Here and there we walk along acequias, water channels built long ago by the Moors. The path here is very narrow and we must hold on to handholds in the rock wall. Some choose to simply step through the water, but we have no suitable clothing with us.
The plan was to do a loop walk. Then you return via a higher walking path with panoramic views of the surroundings. Unfortunately, this path was hermetically closed during our visit. There's nothing else to do but to return along the entire course. That's no punishment given the beautiful and adventurous walking path through the gorge.
Los Cahorros is definitely worth it. This interesting piece of European natural beauty is a top hike for young and old.
