Description by the author

Welcome to the deep forest: Arduenn Sylva, oak and beech groves in the hollows where clay has accumulated, sparse undergrowth on the slopes where the rock is bare. 1/ From the tourist office, take Doctor Lemaire Street, André-Compain Street, then cross the two bridges over the Semoy. Take Phades Street to the left, then the forest track to the right. 2/ Enter the bank on the right on a carrier's path and climb towards La Vinaigrerie. The path crosses a forest track, joins an old quarry, then the Bayart pass. 3/ Descend to the right, either by the path through the rocks or by the bypass along the ridge, and reach the plateau and the monument to the Four Sons of Aymon. Use the alleys, cross the Meuse, and reach Château-Regnault. Pass by the Vanelles school on the right and go up Bernisseaux Street (to the left, a door with the inscription "Joseph-Maré" on a wall: the only remnants of the Grosse Boutique) for 300 m. Turn right onto the Rue de l'Echelle, with its stepped houses, then follow to the right onto Haute Street (a path cuts across the bend of the street) which leads to the split rock of the Hermitage (viewpoint). 4/ Climb the path to the restored former carrier huts. 5/ Reach the rock of the Seven Villages by a balcony path (viewpoint of the rocks Roma, Braux, Levrézy, Château-Regnault, Deville, Monthermé, and the former abbey of Laval-Dieu). 6/ Continue along the ridge path and cross D 989. After the barrier, descend to the left then to the right, via a succession of paths. 7/ Continue to the extraction gallery of the slate quarry of Mal-Hanté. 8/ Use the slate workers' path to reach the shooting range and go around the pit. Pass by the Saint-Anne cross and descend via the Embranchement path. Cross D 1, follow the edge of the Meuse, and cross the bridge. 9/ Turn right to return to the tourist office. Route extracted from the topoguide Les Ardennes à Pied, June 2017.
