Just after World War I, an attempt was made by the Belgians to annex Dutch Limburg to Belgium. This happened during the negotiations of the "victors of World War I" at the Quay d'Orsay in 1919. They wanted to annex both Zeeuws-Flanders and Dutch Limburg. "Both areas historically, linguistically, and culturally belong to Flanders," was the argument. It was simply a historical mistake from the past that needed to be rectified, they believed on the Belgian side. But that "celebration" did not take place...
