The Noordsingel is a well-known old canal in Rotterdam on the border of the Oude Noorden and the Agniesebuurt. The Noordsingel runs from the Noordplein to the Bergweg.
The Noordsingel was constructed as part of the Water Project by W.N. Rose. The landscape architects Jan David Zocher and his son Louis Paul Zocher created a design for the decoration of the canal in 1854. By 1862, the construction was completed, but until 1870, the Noordsingel could not be built upon due to the wind rights of the watermill of the Blommersdijkse polder. In 1872, the prison was built on the Noordsingel. The east side of the Noordsingel was developed in the 1870s, while the west side was developed in the 1880s.
