The Hollandse Biesbosch is a nature reserve between the Nieuwe Merwede and the Beneden-Merwede. Together with the Brabantse Biesbosch, it is part of the National Park De Biesbosch.De Hollandse Biesbosch consists of the Sliedrechtse and the Dordrecht Biesbosch. Both are located in the municipality of Dordrecht. The Dordrecht part is less rugged, more accessible and consists largely of polders. The Sliedrechtse Biesbosch is connected to the Beneden Merwede via the Wantij, and therefore has a tidal range of about 70 cm and flow speeds of up to 4 km/h. The area is accessible by water, from Dordrecht via the Wantij, from the Beneden-Merwede via the Helsluis and from the Nieuwe Merwede via the Ottersluis.
