The canal runs from the Hoge Vaart to the southeast and ends in the Hulkesteinse Forest at the Wielse Tocht. The canal and the adjacent strip serve as an ecological connection between the Hoge Vaart on one side and the Hulkesteinse Forest and the adjacent Horsterwold on the other. On a smaller scale, the Rassenbeektocht also forms the ecological connection between two nature reserves bordering the canal, the Gorzenveld on the northeast side near the Gooiseweg and the Gruttoveld, which is located approximately halfway on the southwest side of the Rassenbeektocht. The areas are managed by Het Flevolandschap.
