El Canal a Beverlo se construyó en un tiempo récord de 3 años. La excavación comenzó en 1854. Funciona como una ramificación del Canal Bocholt-Herentals y fue excavado principalmente por razones militares. Era un canal de suministro para el acuartelamiento de Leopoldsburg. Más tarde también se volvió comercialmente importante para la industria metalúrgica en Lommel.
El canal termina en el puerto de Leopoldsburg y está libre de esclusas.
