Sint-Amands se puede alcanzar a través del ferry en bicicleta. Se encuentra en la curva más hermosa del Escalda. Cuando miras al río desde el muelle de Sint-Amands, los remolinos del río toman un amplio giro en la aguda meandro. En el decorado, la torre de la iglesia del pueblo vecino de Mariekerke se destaca desde un pequeño bosque. Es una descripción que el autor Emile Verhaeren, nacido en Sint-Amands pero que escribía en francés, habría aprobado con gusto. Estaba tan enamorado del Escalda (y especialmente de la curva del Escalda de Sint-Amands) que deseaba ser enterrado en el barro del río. Su tumba está a dos pasos más, entre los juncos de la orilla.
