Geológicamente, aquí no encontrarás muchas piedras en esta región. Y eso es incluso dicho de manera eufemística. Aquí no hay piedras naturales. De ahí que mi curiosidad se despertara con el topónimo "Steentjesbos". Por sí mismo, "piedra" o "guijarro" aparece en muchos topónimos flamencos, ya que indica rocas que emergen del subsuelo. Pero aquí no las tienes. ¿De dónde podría venir ese nombre? Un panel informativo al borde del bosque ofrece la explicación:
"El Steentjesbos debe su nombre a los senderos del bosque pavimentados con restos de piedra de un complejo de edificios gallorromanos."
