La Stadswaag bulle de vida, con terrazas llenas y estudiantes a cualquier hora del día. Antes de que se convirtiera en un barrio estudiantil, aquí predominaban las actividades económicas. Esta plaza fue creada en 1548 por Gilbert van Schoonbeke, el visionario desarrollador urbano que rediseñó Amberes en el siglo XVI con nuevos distritos, calles y plazas. Hasta el siglo XIX, los comerciantes debían pesar sus mercancías en la 'Nieuwe Waag'. En la década de 1960, artistas se hicieron cargo de la plaza y se convirtió en un lugar de ocio. Asegúrate de mirar hacia abajo: en los artísticos espejos de los árboles, artistas de Amberes incorporaron símbolos e historias de la ciudad.
