Antes de la Primera Guerra Mundial '’t Roggeveld, posada y cervecería' (ver inscripción en la tarjeta postal). Esta ubicación de la posada se remonta, sin duda, a 1623: en las cuentas se menciona la posada "Te Rochevelle". Es posible que ya existiera una cervecería en la posada. Durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, la posada-cervecería funcionó como 'Ortskommandatur' alemana, y la posada frontal ''t Nieuw Roggeveld' (Roeselarestraat) se habilitó como puesto médico y hospital de campaña. Dado que esta área no fue destruida durante la guerra, el colegio de alcaldes y el consejo municipal se reunieron inicialmente en esta posada después de 1918.
