La representación de Carlos V en su caballete es una copia de una estatua más grande de bronce fundido de unos cuatro metros de altura . Los artistas Michael Elmgreen e Ingar Dragstedt lo desarrollaron en 2012 para el proyecto Fourt Plinth en Trafalgar Square en Londres.
Esta estatua de bronce , de aproximadamente 1,50 m de altura, es una representación idealizada del joven Carlos V a caballo. El emperador Carlos V creció con su tía Margarita de Austria en la corte de Malinas. El Palacio de Margarita de Austria está justo adelante y en diagonal enfrente. Margareta elige el enorme Hof van Kamerijk como propiedad de su viuda. También se llama Kaiserhof porque el emperador Carlos permaneció allí desde 1500 hasta 1515 .
