Este frigorífico fue construido en 1875 por J. Matthieu, el propietario del castillo.
Es una típica casa de hielo con túneles de acceso, cubierta de tierra y bordeada de árboles.
El refrigerador se usó una vez como una cámara frigorífica para almacenar alimentos.
En invierno , se extraían bloques de hielo del estanque y se amontonaban en el sótano. En el verano mantuvieron las temperaturas frescas. Con la llegada de los frigoríficos eléctricos, el frigorífico ha perdido su importancia y se ha quedado vacío.
Durante la hibernación, los murciélagos necesitan una temperatura constante libre de heladas y una alta humedad, así como un descanso suficiente. Una nevera es la solución ideal para esto. Zedelgem compró el refrigerador en 1997. No es accesible.
