A principios del siglo XIII ya se mencionaba una capilla en Meersel, dedicada a San Quirino y Santa Lucía. Por encargo de Jan IV de Cuijk, que era el señor de Hoogstraten, se construyó una nueva capilla alrededor de 1420. Probablemente, la nave de la capilla data de esta época.
Alrededor de 1542 se habrían construido entonces el transepto y el coro.
En la primera mitad del siglo XVII, la capilla estaba en decadencia, pero alrededor de 1643 la capilla fue restaurada y se le proporcionó nuevo mobiliario. Solo en el tercer trimestre del siglo XVII se reemplazó el techo de paja por tejas.
Después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, la capilla empezó a deteriorarse de nuevo y en 1972 fue retirada del culto. Posteriormente, se realizaron trabajos de restauración y a partir de 1981 la iglesita fue reabierta para el culto.
