El río Emmer fue embalsado en 1983 entre Schieder y Harzberg para formar el Schiedersee. En la presa se dio una diferencia de altura del agua de aproximadamente 10 metros entre el nivel del lago y el río que fluye. En 1996, la empresa de suministro de energía Wesertal construyó una central hidroeléctrica completamente automática con una potencia de 0,3 megavatios. Hoy en día, el operador sucesor de Wesertal, la Energieservice Westfalen Weser GmbH, opera la instalación. Gran parte del agua del Emmer pasa por aquí a través de la turbina y se utiliza para la generación de electricidad. La parte restante se descarga a través de la compuerta hidráulicamente controlada sin uso energético.
