Pertenece al patrimonio de Deutsche Bahn AG y fue construido en el ferrocarril Dortmund-Soest. La estación tenía una función importante como estación de mercancías, especialmente para minas y fábricas de fundición. Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, el antiguo edificio de la estación fue en gran parte destruido y en 1955 fue reemplazado por un edificio funcional. El transporte de mercancías utiliza las vías desde 2002 solo como conexión de paso, aunque varias veces al día. La estación es cruzada por el puente Hörder, que sirve como puente peatonal.
