El proyecto Schwalbe I fue uno de los mayores proyectos de construcción secretos del reubicación U del Tercer Reich. El edificio con el nombre en código original "Eisenkies" es uno de los sistemas de túneles más grandes de Sauerland y se encuentra en el extremo oriental de la actual área urbana de Hemer, en la frontera con la actual área urbana de Menden, cerca de Oberrödinghausen. Como parte del programa Geilenberg para asegurar que la industria petrolera relevante para la guerra no fuera destruida por completo por los bombardeos aéreos aliados, los trabajos comenzaron a finales de agosto de 1944 en la construcción de este gigantesco sistema de túneles en el oculto Hönnetal de Sauerland, en la cantera Emil 1 de los Kalkwerke Rheinisch-Westfälische.
