La Gran Cabeza de Perro es una montaña de 824 m sobre el nivel del mar en el Rennsteig en el Bosque de Turingia. Se encuentra a 3 km al sur de Stützerbach y a solo 1 km al noreste de la sección de Frauenwald, Allzunah, que está justo por debajo de la cima, en el distrito de Ilm, Bosque de Turingia.
Desde el suroeste de la Cabeza de Perro, se desprende hacia el sur, sin valles intermedios significativos, la cresta del Staudenkopf de aproximadamente 8 km de longitud, limitada al oeste por el Nahe y al este por la esclusa, pasando por el Gran Cabeza de Gigante cerca de Frauenwald, Schmiedswiesenkopf y Kaltem Staudenkopf. Separado de esta cresta por el Trenkbach, el Rennwegkopf se extiende directamente hacia el sur desde la Cabeza de Perro, a 751 m al este de Frauenwald.
