La estación principal de trenes de Passau fue construida en 1860 por la sociedad anónima de los ferrocarriles bávaros del Este. En ese momento, aún se ubicaba en el territorio de la comunidad de St. Nikola, que solo se unió a Passau en 1870. Tiene seis andenes, de los cuales uno es una vía muerta, y tres vías de paso. El edificio, de aproximadamente 130 m de largo, está construido en estilo clasicista. En promedio, aproximadamente 6,500 pasajeros utilizan esta estación diariamente. Cada día, un promedio de 77 trenes llegan a la estación. Un total de 90 empleados trabaja para DB AG en la estación.
Hoy en día, la estación es parada para los trenes ICE e IC en el tráfico de larga distancia y del transporte local de DB AG y ÖBB, así como del tráfico de trenes nocturnos con los trenes Nightjet de ÖBB.
