Con el tiempo este edificio recibió el nombre de Hospital de San Juan de Dios , aunque en realidad debería llamarse Iglesia de San Juan de Dios , ya que su función histórica fue la de servir como capilla subsidiaria del Hospital de la Misericordia.
Tiene planta de cruz griega en un cuadrado. Está compuesta por tres naves con bóvedas de crucería y coro abovedado. Pertenece al estilo barroco, aunque las fachadas son neoclásicas.
La torre se asienta en la esquina de la isla, con pilares jónicos y mármol italiano y una aguja bulbosa hecha por Torcuato Cayón en 1768.
En el interior destacan los retablos del siglo XVIII , decorados con rocalla dorada y mármoles italianos, como los de Sant Rafael, Sant Joan de Déu y Sant Josep , todos de Torcuato Benjumeda.
