Este magnífico edificio catalogado, construido a partir del siglo XVI y actualmente sede de la prefectura de las Ardenas y del consejo departamental, fue primero el Palacio de las Tournelles, residencia de los príncipes de Gonzaga en el siglo XVI, y luego la Real Escuela de Ingenieros, donde se formaron más de 600 ingenieros militares entre 1748 y 1794.
El frontón central , decorado con imágenes de cascos, petos y cañones, da testimonio del pasado militar del edificio.
en particular la École Royale du Génie de Mézières.
En 1804, el Palacio de Tournelles se convirtió en prefectura.
