La Batalla de Selasia ocurrió en el 222 a. C. entre los ejércitos de Antígono III de Macedonia, y Cleómenes III, rey de Esparta. Las fuerzas espartanas fueron masacradas y Cleómenes escapó a Egipto. Filopemen, el futuro general de la Liga Aquea, participó como el jefe de la caballería aquea en el lado de Antígono y sobresalió en el coraje y la visión.
