La havezate (casa noble) De Klencke probablemente lleva el nombre del lugar poco profundo en el Drostendiep, donde se encuentra la casa. La palabra 'klencke' significa lugar poco profundo en un río o arroyo.
La havezate se menciona por primera vez en 1482. El edificio adquirió su forma actual en 1760.
La propiedad De Klencke incluye además de la havezate cinco granjas con aproximadamente 200 hectáreas de tierra. La propiedad es una zona de transición de praderas húmedas de menor altitud a campos secos de mayor altitud. O en jerga agrícola: ‘se encuentra entre zonas de pasto y tierras secas’. En 1961, la propiedad pasó a manos de Natuurmonumenten. La havezate fue restaurada en 1976-1977 y se utiliza como vivienda.
