Après la destruction du village en 1489, il ne restait que la tour romane du 12ème siècle de l’église. Les habitants d’Overijsen n’ont pas perdu courage et ont commencé la reconstruction de l’église dans le style gothique. En 1692, l’église a de nouveau pris feu lors d’un incendie, elle a été reconstruite et au 19ème siècle, elle a subi une dernière restauration néo-gothique. Au-dessous du chœur se trouve le caveau funéraire des seigneurs d’Overijse des deux cents dernières années de l’Ancien Régime (17e-18e siècles).
