La Région wallonne, communément appelée Wallonie , est l'une des trois régions belges ; elle est située dans le sud de la Belgique. Elle a été créée en 1970 à la suite des revendications du Mouvement wallon mais il faudra cependant attendre la loi du 8 août 1980 pour qu'elle acquière les pouvoirs exécutif et décrétal. Ces pouvoirs seront à partir du 16 juillet 1993 transmis au Parlement wallon et au Gouvernement wallon. Regroupant les provinces de la région historique wallonne, elle se compose de 262 communes réparties dans cinq provinces , sa superficie est de 16 901 km2 et sa population s'élevait à 3 645 243 habitants en 2020, ce qui en fait la région la moins densément peuplée de Belgique ; sa capitale officielle est Namur, Liège étant souvent citée comme capitale économique.
