En 1895, la Congrégation de Saint-Joseph de Clermont-Ferrand a acheté de nombreux bâtiments pour le soin des femmes souffrant de maladies mentales. On y a également ouvert une école primaire pour filles. À partir de 1896, les bâtiments ont été agrandis pour accueillir les malades mentaux. Aujourd'hui, le Centre Médical Saint-Joseph propose des thérapies à des personnes en difficulté afin qu'elles apprennent à se (ré)intégrer dans la société.
