Selon la légende 'Notre Dame de Walcourt', la statue a été prise lors d’un incendie en 1218 par des anges de l’autre côté de la vallée dans un arbre à l’endroit 'le jardinet'. Malgré plusieurs tentatives pour remonter jusqu’à la basilique, cela n’a réussi que lorsque Thierry II, comte de Rochefort et seigneur de Walcourt, a promis de construire une abbaye en l’honneur de Notre-Dame, où les anges l’avaient placée. Depuis le Moyen Âge, les pèlerins ont parcouru le chemin parcouru par la statue. Vous découvrirez ainsi plus de 40 chapelles, niches, crucifix ou sanctuaires. Le point d’orgue est le jour de la trinité. Ensuite, une procession solennelle a lieu, accompagnée de fantassins armés de la région de Tussen-Samber-en-Maas et commémorant le « Miracle du jardinet ».
