sans doute la personnalité la plus connue de Buldern est "Le fou de Bomberg". Son vrai nom était Kammerherr et Baron Gisbert Freiherr von Romberg. Né en 1839 et mort en 1897 au château de Buldern, il a acquis une grande renommée dans le Münsterland grâce à son mode de vie extravagant, ses actes audacieux et ses aventures amoureuses. Il a été enterré dans l'ancienne église de Buldern, où sa tombe peut encore être visitée aujourd'hui. Le nom "Le fou de Bomberg" ne lui a été attribué qu'au XXe siècle grâce au roman à succès du même nom publié en 1924 par Josef Winckler (1881-1966). Bomberg a acquis une renommée mondiale et est mis sur le même plan que le "Baron de Münchhausen" et "Till Eulenspiegel".
