Le village situé au sud de la Plaine de Heiligenstadt est l'une des 17 parties constituantes officiellement nommées de la ville d'Ebermannstadt en Haute-Franconie. Il se trouve à environ quatre kilomètres au nord-ouest du centre du village d'Ebermannstadt à une altitude de 474 m au-dessus du niveau de la mer.
Jusqu'au début du 19e siècle, Eschlipp était sous la souveraineté du Haut-Evêché de Bamberg. La seigneurie du village et de la commune était exercée par l'office d'Ebermannstadt en tant que bureau de la prévôté. La haute juridiction relevait également de ce bureau en tant que bureau central.
