Formée par une boucle resserrée de la Meuse, la presqu'île d'Iges fut de tout temps un point de passage. Tristement célèbre après 1870, elle accueillit 80 000 soldats français dans des conditions si épouvantables qu'on la surnomma le «camp de la Misère».
