South Stoke est un village et une paroisse civile sur la rive est de la Tamise, à environ 1,5 miles au nord de Goring-on-Thames dans le Sud de l'Oxfordshire. Il comprend à moins d'1 mile au nord le hameau et la maison de campagne de Littlestoke.
En 975, le roi Edgar a accordé à Osweard des terres à Stoke, probablement plus tard les manoirs de South Stoke et d'Offham. Le manoir est passé à l'abbaye d'Eynsham en 1094. Au moment des Hundred Rolls en 1279, South Stoke comptait 40 locataires et seulement trois propriétaires. Woodcote, à 3 miles à l'est de South Stoke, s'était développé en tant qu'établissement dépendant en 1109. Il a été suivi par Exlade Street en 1241 et Greenmoor en 1366.
