Située entre Cassone et Assenza, à une centaine de mètres de la côte, elle s'étend sur environ 260 m de longueur pour une largeur approximative de 60 m.
Au Xe siècle, au moment de l'invasion hongroise, les paysans et pêcheurs s'y réfugient. Ils y construisent une sorte de forteresse qui a été détruite par les troupes de Frédéric Barberousse en 1158 puis a été reconstruite par les Della Scala.
