En arrivant, vous apercevrez de loin le moulin à vent de 1841 et l'église réformée néerlandaise de 1612. L'ancienne IJzendijke [Iezendieke] en West-Zeeuws-Vlaanderen a été engloutie par la mer il y a plus de cinq cents ans. Grâce au duc espagnol de Parme, le lieu a ressurgi, à quelques kilomètres, sous la forme d'une fortification.
Le Prince Maurice
En 1604, pendant la guerre de Quatre-Vingts Ans, le Prince Maurice chassa les Espagnols de « leur » fort Ysendijck et fit immédiatement restaurer les fortifications. De nos jours, vous trouverez le Prince Maurice sur la charmante place. Assis derrière un échiquier, pensant au prochain coup stratégique.
