De 1980 à 1985, la digue maritime nord a été rehaussée à hauteur delta par l'administration des eaux Ommelanderzeedijk, ce qui a nécessité le remplacement de l'ancienne écluse de 1811 par une nouvelle station de pompage. L'ancienne écluse, en maçonnerie bloquée, a fait partie en 1986 d'un projet de land art, un mosaïque de pierres, conçu par J.H. van Loon. Cette œuvre d'art est déjà visible de loin.
