Le Van Leydenhof est une zone naturelle près de Kijkduin, au sud de La Haye. Elle est gérée par le Zuid-Hollands Landschap, qui gère également les Westduinen à Goeree et Langeveld au Langevelderslag.
Après la dernière période glaciaire, la fonte des glaces a temporairement fait monter le niveau de la mer. Environ 3000 ans plus tard, le niveau stable est revenu et la côte hollandaise a recommencé à se développer. De jeunes dunes se sont formées. Entre les jeunes et les anciennes dunes, une couche de tourbe s'est créée, c'est pourquoi La Haye est en partie construite sur des crêtes de sable et en partie sur des sols tourbeux.
