Le Cap Nord est souvent erroneusement appelé le point le plus au nord de l'Europe. Lorsque l'on exclut Svalbard, le Knivskjelodden, situé plus à l'ouest sur le plateau du Cap Nord, se trouve 1,5 km plus au nord. Le point le plus au nord du continent européen est Kinnarodden, un cap près du Mehamn, situé plus à l'est. Le Cap Nord lui-même est en fait sur une île.
