L'imposante Casa dos Carvalhos ou Casa dos Mota Prego est une maison palatiale qui provient d' une première tour construite au Moyen Âge , élément important et commun à cette époque.
Au milieu du XVIe siècle, Gaspar de Carvalho, chancelier du roi Jean III , apporta des améliorations au bâtiment. Ce n'est qu'au début du XVIIIe siècle que la façade principale de la maison fut construite. Le bâtiment fut remodelé pour la dernière fois à la fin du XVIIIe siècle et au début du XIXe siècle.
Aujourd'hui, il y a ici deux restaurants . Papaboa et Histórico by Papaboa avec différentes possibilités : restaurant, glacier, crêperie, salon de thé...
