Il villaggio di Clermont-sur-Berwinne si trova praticamente a metà strada tra Liegi (24 km) e Aquisgrana (22 km) sulla Via Mosana, un'arteria che nell'epoca carolingia costituiva la strada di collegamento tra i vasti domini di Liegi nella regione della Mosa e Aquisgrana, la capitale dell'Impero.
Lo stemma scelto dalla famiglia Clermont de Couves sembra rendere plausibile l'ipotesi che lungo questa via si svolgesse un pellegrinaggio verso Santiago de Compostela – ripetuta presenza della conchiglia e della figura del pellegrino.
La chiesa di Clermont contiene anche segni interessanti che riguardano il culto di San Giacomo il Maggiore, in particolare il vento della chiesa.
