Houtvenne è un paese nella provincia belga di Anversa e una frazione di Hulshout. Houtvenne era un comune autonomo fino alla riorganizzazione comunale del 1977. Houtvenne è probabilmente nata sotto i Carolingi. Molti abitanti locali indicano questa regione con il nome di Josterwijk. Oosterwijk-Houtvenne è cresciuta attorno a una cappella dedicata a San Adriano all'interno della parrocchia di Herselt, che dal 1365 era sotto la gestione dell'abbazia di Tongerlo. Nel 1651 Oosterwijk-Houtvenne divenne quasi una parrocchia autonoma, ancora sotto il controllo della stessa abbazia. Nel XIX secolo la cappella fu quindi trasformata in una chiesa.
