Negli anni '30 del XX secolo, il fondatore della scienza dell'informazione, Paul Otlet, e l'architetto di punta Le Corbusier, presentarono un piano per un concorso per sviluppare la sponda sinistra di Anversa, in abbandono. Creerono una versione anversese della loro Cité Mondiale. Avrebbe incluso molti grattacieli e sottolineato il carattere futuristico-internazionale di Anversa. Nella giuria del concorso c'erano le celebrità dell'epoca Henry Van de Velde e Victor Horta. Non ne furono entusiasti e il progetto finì nel cestino.
