Il museo delle curiosità è stato fondato da Antoon Vanneste. Era situato in Peperstraat 24 a Heule e cessò di esistere quando il fondatore-conservatore Antoon Vanneste morì il 6 novembre 2001.
L'origine del museo delle curiosità risale al 1963, quando Antoon, mentre riordinava la soffitta della sua abitazione in Peperstraat, scoprì alcuni oggetti della locanda “Au Lion d’Or”, che un tempo si trovava nella casa. Antoon chiamò il “mercante di ferro vecchio”, ma questi tardò troppo, così iniziò a lucidare alcuni pezzi e a posizionarli tra la sua collezione di uccelli imbalsamati. Il risultato gli piacque e da lì nacque il resto. Poco a poco, una stanza dopo l'altra della casa venne occupata con nuovi pezzi.
