La Banda Nera era una temuta gang criminal della regione di Galmaarden durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale. Fu chiamata così perché i membri si dipingevano il viso di nero prima di partire per commettere crimini. Spesso si travestivano anche da tedeschi.
La banda si rese colpevole di omicidio, estorsione, furto con scasso, furto e sembrava che ricevessero protezione dall'alto.
La maggior parte dei loro crimini fu insabbiata e non fu mai chiarita. La popolazione taceva per paura di ritorsioni.
