Da sud a nord, l'Herk si snoda attraverso Wellen passando per le aree naturali del Broekbeemd e del Grote Beemd. Queste aree sono gestite da Limburgs Landschap vzw con l'aiuto dei volontari di 't Bokje. I nomi delle aree lo rivelano già: può essere umido. 'Beemd' sta infatti per 'un prato di fieno in una valle fluviale'. Entrambe le aree ospitano splendide fioriture primaverili e una natura europea di alta qualità!
