Melsungen è un comune tedesco di origine medievale di 13.865 abitanti, situato nel land dell'Assia, nel circondario di Schwalm-Eder, a sua volta nel distretto governativo di Kassel.
Melsungen si trova nel punto di immissione dei torrenti Pfieffe e Kehrenbach nel fiume Fulda, nel Fulda-Werra-Bergland. Pochi chilometri più a valle anche il fiume Eder si unisce alla Fulda.
