Reinsberg è un comune nel distretto di Mittelsachsen, a circa 35 km a ovest di Dresda, vicino alle città di Freiberg e Meißen. L'area comunale, che comprende nove frazioni e ha 3000 abitanti, si trova a est della Mulde di Freiberg, nel centro dello stato libero di Sassonia. Con la fondazione del monastero di Altzella a metà del XII secolo e con le scoperte di minerali d'argento nei pressi di Freiberg, emersero le zone di insediamento rurale.
Il comune di Reinsberg si trova nel mezzo del versante orientale del Vorland dei Monti Metalliferi, tra l'Osterzgebirge e la Lommatzscher Pflege. Il confine comunale occidentale è costituito dalla Mulde di Freiberg. Proveniendo da sud, il Bobritzsch scorre verso nord, sfociando nella Mulde di Freiberg tra Bieberstein e Hirschfeld all'interno del territorio comunale. Attraverso il comune passa il Rothschönberger Stolln, un tunnel di drenaggio dell'area mineraria di Brander e Freiberg. Nella zona di Neukirchen c'è un'uscita di luce.
