Aalen è una città di 66813 abitanti situata nella parte orientale del Baden-Württemberg 67 km circa a est di Stoccarda e 48 km a nord di Ulma e a 429 metri sul livello del mare.
Possiede manifatture di lana e cotone, oltre che alcune industrie del settore chimico, metallurgico e per la lavorazione del cuoio; nelle vicinanze della città si trovano vasti giacimenti di ferro.
