La Grevenburg si trova a un chilometro a nord-est del villaggio di Sommersell nella città di Nieheim, nel distretto di Höxter, in Renania Settentrionale-Vestfalia.
La Grevenburg è un castello d'acqua; l'area del bene che circonda l'edificio copre 2,5 ha ed è oggi un parco paesaggistico storico. La famiglia nobile Oeynhausen acquisì il terreno e vi costruì un edificio nel 1536. Il castello prende il nome dal ruscello Greve. I discendenti costruirono tra il 1566 e il 1579 la piccola residenza rinascimentale come sede della famiglia. Originariamente, la Grevenburg era circondata da un fossato largo circa 18 metri, racchiuso da una alta e spessa cinta muraria. Intorno al 1850 il fossato fu parzialmente riempito e furono creati dei laghetti. Intorno al 1950 il parco fu nuovamente ristrutturato. Il parco è caratterizzato da alberi secolari.
